Several Pillars That Make My Program Alpha

Several Pillars That Make My Program Alpha

1.Research is my first pillar. Without doing my research, no one learns anything about freight brokering.

There is a lot of stuff going on in the world and it’s affecting logistics. I probably spend as much time doing research as doing training.

For example, I’ve already alerted you to blockchain technology and artificial intelligence – both will rock the world.

Another thing is more manufacturing moving to Mexico. I started moving produce out of the Valley over 20 years ago. I’ve been keenly interested in South Texas and even spent four months there several years ago. In fact, it was during covid and I was unable to meet face-to-face with anyone except for a beer at the bar in Applebee’s.

I may go back to some areas along the southern Texas-Mexico border THIS WINTER – especially to find the hotspots of logistics activity in the region.

I’ll keep you posted.

Let’s now look at the others:

2. Knowledge is the second pillar that is based upon my research. My program starts with getting your authority. Not too exciting but it’s got to be done.

In my Introduction and Foreword, I explain a few things about Full Truck Loads vs Less Than Truck Load.

I discuss who you will be working with – your target markets – and what to expect from them as well as what they will expect from you.

We then get into 3. Tools of the Trade that you’ll be using such as rates, negotiations, load boards, recording and monitoring progress, etc

Pillars four and five are 4. Getting Loads and 5. Prequalifing Carriers.

You don’t want to follow the herd when searching for shippers. I’ll show you several strategies that will help you find hungry customers who aren’t being called by freight brokers every week.

Have you heard of “negligent carrier selection”? You want to avoid this. I’ll show you how to handle this potential problem before you hire a carrier.

Another part of the knowledge base is learning about 6. Legislation and Some Legal Issues. There is a lot of gray area here and I’ll point this out in more detail in the training.

For example, brokers’ liability – are you liable or not for cargo damage and/or missing pieces? Will the Carmack Amendment save you?

Then I’ll introduce you to some great resources that will help you grow you own knowledge base. So, 7. Resources is item number seven.

There’s even a well-developed glossary of terms that will help so you don’t come across as a dummy.

The last pillar is 8. Support. You have unlimited support. It’s called Q&A support because it’s not retraining but rather good, solid support as long as you need me.

Before ending the formal part of training, we create an action plan together that will get you started. You won’t have to scratch your head, wondering where and how to get started.

Most people call me for more information before getting started. I’m about to wrap up formal training with several exciting clients. One lives in a hot bed of trucking and manufacturing; two are relatively new and have family in trucking; another has cross-border experience and will be bringing his Mexican partner into my program.

It’s all very exciting for them and for me!
