How Much Can You Earn as a Freight Broker?
When I started brokering freight over 20 years ago, I had hopes but I did not know what to expect.
I hoped I could start hooking up with shippers who would give me loads – a lot of loads. But, honestly, I hardly knew where to begin. Much of the process was a mystery.
I was anxious to start making money but, in the back of my mind, I was scared at the thought of actually getting loads.
“What do I do NEXT after getting a load”?!
That’s when I started documenting everything I did and THIS documentation became the basis for my freight broker training that over 900 people have benefited from for over twenty years.
Starting out as a new freight broker there was one overriding thought that drove me onward –
I knew others were doing it and succeeding and I thought I can do it as well.
Then something happened – I had put together a pretty good training manual and began offering it by placing newspaper ads in several large cities out east.
My second client from New York city told me (after we finished training, of course) that I should be charging $1,000. He paid $695.
That was good encouragement.
Well, the training took off immediately – I mean almost overnight – and I had to give up brokering because I had to sleep sometime.
So, I did not go on with brokering where I could have reaped all the money I’d been hoping for – I focused on training. And it’s just as well.
So, going back to the question “How Much Can You Earn as a Freight Broker?”, let me give you some input here.
It’s almost unlimited and it depends on your vision. Do you want to stay small or do you want to grow a small empire? It’s really up to you.
Unless you already have shippers willing to give you loads, getting started usually goes slow – at first.
Then – with time – there will be days where you can’t leave the office – it’s like an avalanche. Phone calls are coming in and going out; faxes and emails are coming in and going out.
You gotta keep track of who’s on first base and who’s on second because you may have several loads going on at once and they are in different sequences.
It’s exciting but you’d better have a good blueprint to follow.
It’s best to focus on a blueprint first and having one that coincides with how ever much money you want to make.
I’ve got an article that spells out what it takes to make $100K. I’m sure you’ll have some questions later, but go here first …
