The (Fear of the) Corona Virus Hits the Economy
I know you may be “coroned-out” by now.
But here are three quick things …
(1) Here’s what I’ve been tracking. I’m tracking the increase in the rate of deaths compared to the increase in the rate of confirmed cases. Why?
If the increase in the rate of deaths is surpassing the increase in the rate of confirmed cases – this is bad because it tells you that deaths are increasing faster than we’d like to see.
We’d like to see the increase in the number of confirmed cases increasing faster than the increase in deaths because that means more people are being tested. As more people are being tested, more people will be confirmed as having the virus and some of them will die.
But, at some point, the increase in the rate of deaths compared to the increase in the rate of confirmed cases will fall and this will be the beginning of the end of the virus.
Right now from my sources, deaths in the U.S. are increasing a bit faster than the number of confirmed cases but only by a thin margin.
I’m looking for the days when there is a sustained trend where the rate of deaths is falling faster as compared to the rate of confirmed cases.

(2) The most devastating fact about this virus will not be the number of deaths or cases. Most virus-confirmed people are on their way to recovery. The biggest devastation will be to the economy due to the fear factor that has been sweeping the world.
It may take years for a strong recovery to take place and, as time passes, the virus will NOT be on every one’s lips.
